Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed commented that the people of the country will no longer give the autocratic, fascist, and murderous Awami League an opportunity to engage in politics. He stated that those who have committed murder, genocide, oppression, and torture, yet have neither apologized nor shown remorse, will not be allowed to participate in politics in this country anymore.
He made these remarks on Friday (November 6) afternoon, while addressing the closing ceremony of the 104th two-day annual Mahfil of Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari, Chattogram, as the chief guest.
The Home Minister said that even though Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh is a non-political organization, it continued to protest for the sake of Islam, for the country, and against the fascist and Islamophobic government before the post-fascist elections and during the movement. The Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam, Hojrot Maulana Muhibbullah Babunagari, led this movement.

He stated that it took 23 years to achieve Bangladesh’s independence. And it took 16-17 years to free the people of the country from the grip of a fascist, Islamophobic, and cleric-hostile government. During this period, many Islamic scholars (Alem-Olama) and students were martyred. Many of their names are still unknown to people, and the locations of many graves remain untraced.
Salahuddin Ahmed said that according to UN figures, 1,400 people were martyred in the July-August mass uprising. Prior to that, nearly 3,000 people became victims of enforced disappearance in the preceding 16-17 years. He mentioned that he himself was a victim of enforced disappearance and stated that by the grace of Allah and the prayers of the people, he is alive.
He further claimed that during that period, approximately 7,000 people were victims of various killings and tortures, and millions were oppressed through attacks and lawsuits.
The Home Minister posed a question, “Do we want the return of those fascists? Then who is creating that ground today?”
He alleged that fascist forces are behind those attempting to create instability in the garment sector.
Regarding religion-based politics, Salahuddin Ahmed stated that some miscreants in this country are using the name of Islam to engage in politics. While claiming to be Islamic parties, their electoral manifestos lack clear commitments to establish an Islamic governance system or Sharia-based laws. Instead, he commented that they have taken a stand against Sharia-based rule.
He said, “We believe in Islamic values. We have incorporated ‘Bismillah’ (In the name of Allah) and recited the Quran. We have established the politics of nationalist Islamic values of the martyred President Ziaur Rahman. We have created a united Bangladesh with all its communities, where everyone has a national identity.”
Appealing not to create religious divisions in the country, the Home Minister stated that the activities of those using religion’s name for politics do not reflect religious values. They are merely creating divisions. Instability was created in the country through misleading politics before and after independence. Now, attempts are being made to go down that path again.
The event was presided over by Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari, director of Babunagar Madrasa and Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh.
Also present at the event were State Minister for Religious Affairs Shamim Kaisar Lincoln, Members of Parliament Sarwar Alamgir, Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, Humam Quader Chowdhury, Chattogram District Commissioner Zahidul Islam Mia, Chattogram District Police Super Masud Alam, along with other top Islamic scholars (Alem-Olama) of the country.
