President calls for united efforts to sustain the economy
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that many cooperative societies in the country have lost their effectiveness due to corruption. He called on everyone to work unitedly to ensure transparency and accountability in the cooperative sector, as well as to tackle the energy crisis and keep the fragile economy moving.

He made these remarks while speaking at an event organized by the Department of Cooperatives on the occasion of the 55th National Cooperative Day at Osmany Memorial Hall in the capital on Sunday (November 8).

The President stated, ‘Cooperation is not merely about product manufacturing or business activities. It is intertwined with the development of the rural economy, job creation, poverty alleviation, and the potential to improve the living standards of marginalized people. To build a self-reliant and self-sufficient Bangladesh by harnessing this potential, cooperatives must be developed as an effective tool.’

Noting that the global war situation has created various challenges in the economy, including an energy crisis, he said everyone must come forward unitedly to tackle these crises and keep the wheels of the economy turning.

Emphasizing transparency, accountability, and effective management for the development of the cooperative sector, the President said, ‘Many societies have lost their effectiveness due to corruption. To overcome this situation, transparency and accountability must be ensured in cooperative management.’

At the event, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir handed over the National Cooperative Award-2025 to selected individuals and institutions in recognition of their special contributions to the cooperative sector.
